Bettye Buford (1931 – 1921)
We mourn the passing of HPTA’s first president, Bettye Buford, who was elected in 1977. Bettye loved HPTA and in recent years, she attended HPTA’s anniversary gatherings and always marveled at how the association had grown.
“We thought that once we got out of managing HPTA, it would just disappear,” said Bettye in a story posted on the HPTA website. “We’re so happy we were wrong, and we’re so thankful for those who followed us and who kept HPTA alive.”
